Antibiotics

They are allowed to roam freely and the farmers don’t use antibiotics or medicine.

Since the 1940s, antibiotics have been administered to certain farm animals like cows, pigs and poultry in order to treat infections or prevent an illness from spreading. Antibiotics are a type of antimicrobial substance used to fight bacterial infections. As a result, they work by killing or inhibiting the growth of harmful bacteria and are used to treat and prevent such infections.  Small doses of antibiotics are also added to animal feed to encourage growth in the animals. This means a greater and more efficient production of meat or milk in shorter periods of time.

For these reasons, the use of antibiotics has become common and widespread in agriculture. Antibiotics are valuable tools for treating infections. However, using antibiotics can lead to antibiotic-resistant infections in people and in animals. This includes the use of antibiotics for human and animal health. Bacteria in food can form a resistance towards certain antibiotics, which can then lead to untreatable infections in humans.

It’s natural for a chicken to pick the ground for seeds and bugs to eat

Similar to humans, giving antibiotics to farm animals will kill most bacteria, but there is a slight chance that certain bacteria can survive. When food animals are slaughtered and processed, resistant germs in the animal’s gut can contaminate and inadvertently affect the meat or other animal products.

Resistant germs from the animal gut can also get into the environment, like water and soil, through the form of manure. If animal manure or water containing resistant germs are used on fruits, vegetables, or other produce as fertiliser, it can spread antibacterial-resistant germs.

At Sloane’s

We are passionate about quality food and animal welfare. Therefore, our products are created using traditional artisan methods with professional butchering knowledge and modern food hygiene standards. All of our quality-driven products are made by hand in our own production facility by passionate individuals.

Sloane’s now produces a large range of high-quality meat products from the best, ethically sourced, local ingredients. We source our free-range pigs, chickens, ducks and cows from small high-welfare farms across Thailand, which ensure the most natural and sustainable products possible.

We work with the farmers who do things differently and they have identified the best ways to raise healthy chickens using organic feed and natural farming methods. For example, the chickens feed on a mixture of organic rice bran and fermented vegetation to optimise their natural growth. Furthermore, they are allowed to roam freely and the farmers don’t use antibiotics or medicine.
