Heaven on Cheese

Rebruchon made with raw milk

When people think a about cheese they often think of countries in Europe. Who doesn’t love a Swiss Emmental, a French Comte, a British Stilton or an Italian Parmesan? But did you know that you can get high quality cheese from Thailand too?

While consumers are not yet as crazy about cheese as in other parts of the world, a growing number of Thai consumers are starting to appreciate this delicacy. Go to any supermarket and you will find a growing cheese selection. However, most of the cheese comes from overseas. We are lucky to work with producers who are contributing to Thailand’s growing cheese production.

Medium Red Leicester made with organic milk, rennet, culture and salt

Several small artisan producers are making cheese in Thailand using local milk. One of them is Reinhard Matheis. Originally from Austria, Reinhard is no stranger to cheese but it wasn’t until he moved to Thailand in 2005 that he started making his own. He called it ‘Heaven on Cheese‘. Initially, Reinhard used store-bought milk but soon moved to fresh dairy from local farms. As a result, the quality improved and word started to spread about his cheeses. Heaven on Cheese currently produce cheeses such as double cream bries, reblochons and munsters .

Chiangrai Cheese Thailand

Tomme is made from cow’s milk

Further north, in Chiang Rai, Chiangrai Cheese Thailand is also contributing to Thailand’s growing cheese production. They use their own starter culture which creates a unique cheese taste available only in the Northern province of Chiang Rai, Thailand. Furthermore, the cheeses are aged on-site in purpose built caves. Chiangrai Cheese Thailand offers their popular Chiangrai Blue Cheese, Tomme de Chiangrai, a smoked Tomme de Chiangrai and Chiangrai Mountain Cheese to name but a few.

High quality and animal welfare

Not only do these cheese producers make high quality, delicious cheese – they also care about the animals producing the dairy. We are proud to work with people who subscribe to the same ethos as we do, treating the animals with the respect they deserve.
